Learning from life: making sense of it all

Class will meet via Zoom on Monday evenings, 8 PM Central, for one hour, on the following dates: October 25 November 1 November 8 November 15 You will also do short and meaningful assignments. What: Life is messy. The future is uncertain. Here are five simple tools I have successfully used with over 2,000 students to help bring order to an area of your life you'd like to understand better. Are you thinking about changing careers? Going back to work after time at home? Do you want to take a deep dive into your hobby? Do you have questions about something new you are learning about in your life? This course utilizes five steps that I used when working with students conducting internships abroad - a setting with a high level of uncertainty. The tools we will use in this class (the learning tools spelled out on the New Backwater webpage) will help you to systematize your real-life learning and gain greater clarity on your path, your goals, and your next steps. The five steps are: Asking Questions Reading Talking with someone Observing Systematizing These tools are related to the popular education model from Latin America, translated to "experiential education" here in the US. No matter what you call it, it's best done in community. You will find that you are challenged, supported, and inspired by the others in our cohort. You will get new ideas, find direction, and learn that you are not alone. I'm excited to get started, and to learn more about your story!
